Press conference held at the North Atlantic Seafood Forum (Bergen, Norway) on 21st June 2022.
The Global Roundtable on Marine Ingredients was launched in October 2021, with two objectives: increasing the availability of sustainable marine ingredients and driving environmental and social improvements in key reduction fisheries globally. Olvea, Biomar, Cargill, Skretting, Aquaculture Stewardship Council, MarinTrust, Global Seafood Alliance, Nestlé and the Federation of European Aquaculture producers have joined this initiative which was set up by Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) and IFFO, The Marine Ingredients Organisation.
Nine months on, and the group led by its Independent Chair Árni M. Mathiesen, former Assistant Director-General and Head of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Department at the United Nations Food & Agriculture Organisation (FAO), has already undertaken tangible action in three directions: West Africa, South / Southeast Asia as well as a life cycle assessment (LCA) project.
Prioritising stakeholder collaboration and shared learning, the group wants to address food security concerns through a tangible action plan covering resource management, environmental impacts as well as socio-economic aspects. It also wants to look into potential new marine raw materials.
NASF delegates are invited to join the conference, where Árni M. Mathiesen, Petter M. Johannessen (IFFO) and Dave Martin (SFP) will present the Global Roundtable’s priorities and action plan.
